Fairness, Integrity, Safety and Health (FISH) Standard for Crew
FISH Focuses on Fair and Ethical Labour Standards on Board Fishing Vessels.
The FISH Standard was developed to assure seafood buyers that the fish they are buying and selling is harvested by crews that are:
Recruited and hired ethically
Treated with respect on the vessel
Paid properly
Have processes to address grievances
The FISH Standard supports Goal 8 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, which promotes sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. The FISH Standard draws on the experiences of those who helped develop international agreements on labour practices.
APA is the certificate holder and client for the FISH Standard for Crew for all member vessels. APA contracted with MRAG Americas to conduct an initial pilot audit for all vessels and was successfully certified against the FISH Standard for Crew, beginning in 2023, with an accreditation period of two years.
